She Who Bargained with the Gods (after Thetis)
I felt everything,
and I yielded to nothing.
15 × 22 in | Oil on wood | 2026 | Oval frame
Thetis, the sea nymph and mother of Achilles, lived on the margins of the gods’ world — powerful enough to shape destinies, yet rarely granted one of her own.
A prophecy foretold that any son she bore would surpass his father. Fearing this fate, Zeus and Poseidon abandoned their pursuit and arranged for her to marry a mortal man instead.
Her autonomy was sacrificed to protect the power of the Gods.
Myth tells us she resisted. When Peleus attempted to claim her, she transformed into fire, water, animals, and storm — a shapeshifter fighting to escape capture.
In this portrait, Thetis emerges from darkness like a figure half remembered. Her gesture hovers between silence and speech, her gaze lifted as though interrupted mid-thought.
She becomes a goddess caught between transformation and restraint — a woman whose power was feared, whose story was never fully told.

About the Divine Outcast collection
Divine Outcast is a series of feminist portraits reimagining women from mythology, religion, and art history whose stories were distorted by fear, shame, or misunderstanding. Each painting restores their voice, presenting them not as symbols or warnings, but as powerful women reclaiming their own narratives.
