Too Glamorous For A Cry For Help
A translucent blue veil recalls the iconography of the Virgin Mary, while her expression belongs unmistakably to a teenager. Holy, chaotic, and slightly irreverent, the work captures the beautiful mess of becoming oneself.
UNBECOMING PART 1 marks a new direction in Amélie Vallières’ practice: the culmination of more than six months of research, experimentation, and a growing desire to move beyond the traditional portrait. These works explore the messy, tender, chaotic process of becoming ourselves: the identities we inherit, the ones we outgrow, and the ones we are still learning to inhabit. Part 1 lays the foundation for the larger UNBECOMING collection, with Part 2 to be unveiled in spring 2027.
