In Loving Memory of Who I Thought I'd Be
18 × 24 | unframed
A tender meditation on the person we imagined we would become, and the strange freedom of realizing we don't have to. Soft, messy, beautiful and quietly chaotic, this work makes space for the grief and liberation of letting an old version of ourselves go.
UNBECOMING PART 1 marks a new direction in Amélie Vallières’ practice: the culmination of more than six months of research, experimentation, and a growing desire to move beyond the traditional portrait. These works explore the messy, tender, chaotic process of becoming ourselves: the identities we inherit, the ones we outgrow, and the ones we are still learning to inhabit. Part 1 lays the foundation for the larger UNBECOMING collection, with Part 2 to be unveiled in spring 2027.
